A Product-Service System (PSS) is a conceptual arrangement that invites an organization to provide the utility or result of a product, rather than the product itself. The financial mechanism may be through leasing, renting, subscription, membership networks, or co-ownership, to name a few examples. Car rentals, swap meets, movie rental stores, and libraries are a few everyday examples of PSSs.
Technology has enabled PSSs to become inexpensive to administer and widespread. At the PSS blog, we highlight new services, discuss the pros and cons of different designs, and suggest ideas that are ripe for implementation.
