Peerflix DVD trading is no more

The Peerflix PSS will be ending its DVD trading service. From the email:

While we have made considerable investments in our marketplace platform over the past four years, unfortunately the escalating costs of operating the marketplace do not make that business viable at this juncture. As we move out of the DVD marketplace business, we are focusing our energy and resources on building the Peerflix Media Network which is now the web's fastest growing vertical movie network.

I'm not sure what a "vertical movie network" is, but whatever it is, it sounds like it was more profitable for Peerflix to move into this business than to continue its DVD trading business. The DVD marketplace at Peerflix changed shape several times and never really settled on one form -- trading for credits, trading as a social network, trading for money.

It looks like they are keeping the name "Peerflix", but the company is rebranding itself. I am curious what will happen to the DVD printed mailer that they patented. It would be nice if that patent were available to other sites that wanted to use it. I'm not actually sure whether it is a design patent. It's strange to me that you could patent what is essentially origami, but the US patent system has its absurd side.
